Stress and Burnout

With stress, the main damage is to the physical body. Ulcers, headaches, high blood pressure, etc.  With burnout, motivation and drive are affected.  Both stress and burnout can lead to more complex problems, if not dealt with.  Camsterhouse may be able to help, with counselling, coaching and practical support.

Stress Indicators

Some of the indicators experienced by individuals experiencing high levels of  stress or suffering burnout.

Feelings

Fear, Anxiety, Butterflies, Irritability, Mood swings. Panic.

Thoughts

Difficulty concentrating or making decisions; worried about the future; constant fear of failing; forgetting things, being self-critical.

Physical Signs

Pain, including backache, neck ache headache, Muscular problems, sweating; coldness, sleep problems, stomach problems; dry mouth, heart racing, colds and flu like symptoms.

Change in Behaviour

Changes in appetite, emotional changes, difficulty speaking; Increased use of alcohol or drugs, argumentative; accident-prone.

Burnout Indicators

Burnout is an excessive stress reaction to a person's social or professional environment. Strong indicators are feelings of emotional and physical exhaustion coupled with a sense of frustration, paranoia and failure.

Standards and Safe Practice?

Counselling is provided by a diploma qualified counsellor who is:

  • A member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), bound by the BACP ‘Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy’.  CCC registered, and recognised by Private Medical Insurance Companies.
  • Fully supervised and maintains their own Continued Professional Development through both internal and external routes.
  • Has several years practical experience covering a wide range of people from many different backgrounds.
